Ligabue had a troubled childhood until he was expelled and sent to Italy. He lived as an outcast in the Padanian fluvial woods. Ugly and deformed, he was a primitive painter who reached world fame after his death. In his huge loneliness full of nightmares, Ligabue perceived invisible energies that amplified his senses by painting a fierce jungle with tigers, lions and gorillas. Pretending to be an animal himself, he recognized higher energies. In his paintings life alternates with death
