A Blank Space (U as Vanishing)

Directed by Augusto Contento | |

A Blank Space (U as Vanishing) is the third part of director Augusto Contento’s trilogy on contemporary history, following Journey in the Twilight and Roads into the Weeds. Using animation, fictional reconstructions, documentary elements and interviews with international cultural figures, the protagonist, Neva, will find herself inwardly reliving her past. Her story took her from her hometown, Kiev, via Siberia, the gulag experience and to the buzzing Bologna of the 1970s to Oregon. Here, by the ocean, she thinks back in a flashback throughout the film, to her own epic and that of the ideals of the Soviet system, betrayed by the imperialist hunger for power in a world that seems to reproduce itself indefinitely, leading to the present day.
