Krishna, a young Indian immigrant and son of a Brahmin, lives in the countryside of Emilia and works as a milker. When it seems that an unproductive cow is to be sent to the slaughterhouse, Krishna is forced to make a difficult decision that makes him face up to a centuries-old body of convictions such as metempsychosis and respect for all forms of life.
